"I wanted to want something as much as people wanted these plants, but it isn't part of my constitution. I suppose I do have one unembarrassed passion. I want to know what it feels like to care about something passionately. Should one be lucky enough to see a ghost orchid all else will seem eclipsed. If the ghost orchid was really a phantom, it was still such a bewitching one that it could seduce people to pursue it year after year and mile after miserable mile. If it was a real flower, I wanted to see one. The reason was not that I love orchids, I don't even especially like orchids. What I wanted was to see this thing that people were drawn to in such a singular and powerful way."

Adaptations and Interpretations:

"John: Adaptation is a profound process - meaning to figure out how to thrive in the world.
Susan: I know, but it's easier for plants. I mean they have no memory. You know, they just move onto whatever's next. But for a person, you know, adapting is almost shameful. It feels like running away.."

- Chris Cooper and Meryl Streep in Adaptation

The ideas of writing, obsession, disconnection and reconnection, and rebirth shown in Spike Jonze's film, Adaptation, have lead to the creation of this characters' journal. The movie serves as the structure, as well as the metaphor, for my approach to role playing, which in some ways mirrors the process of making a movie. For me, role playing is a mutual communication between the writers, who are also playing their actors and characters. It involves adaptation, improvisation, and a passion for the people and characters involved.

I'm very open to whatever my writing partner brings to the table, so the following is simply what I tend to do on my own.

I have some experience asterisking and storybooking, but most of my writing has been threading, which is the format I prefer, in third person, past tense. I have been writing (mostly creative nonfiction and poetry) for years and RP-ing off and on since the summer of 2006, but the bulk of my playing has only taken place since March of 2008. My current location is in the EST time zone, and I have experience with both Celeb and PB games on Livejournal and Insanejournal.

I believe in the characters and the writing and will go wherever they lead me. In other words, I am comfortable writing sex scenes but am just as happy to fade out if my partner would prefer that. I am a lesbian and am therefore open to femme or slash pairings, but for no good reason I can think of, I usually play het characters. Along the same lines, I will play males or females, but I generally prefer women. Character creation is a fusion of actor, character, and personal experience. I adapt and interpret a vision I have of a particular character, but it is only an interpretation, or perspective.

As a writer, I tend to be improvisational and can be fragmented in my style of writing, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy plotting out a storyline in detail. I will do research for a character and line if need be, but I won't go overboard with it unless I have a lot of time on my hands. I prefer to go off of instinct and what other people give me in scene. In my personal, academic, and professional writing, I tend to be slow in the output department. I am compulsive about RP-ing and staying active, but I apologize in advance for slow tags. I pull things from my life, people I know or have met, or things I have seen and read when creating characters and plot lines. So while I am interested in Celeb and PB games, or PSLs, that are focused on realism, I have little interest in science fiction or fantasy based ones.

Please contact me if you're interested in one of the characters or celebrities I role-play for a PSL or with game suggestions. My AIM is bertierussellii, or comment to this post.

Hey there! I'm actually probably about to leave RP. I've gotten ridiculously busy in the coming months, and I think I need a prolonged break. If I end up coming back, though, I will definitely keep you in mind! Anyone who PBs Justin Kirk has to be awesome! ;) Thanks for commenting!
